Humanoid robots are symbols of power and technological capability, a geopolitics expert says. Pierpaolo Piccioli is stepping down from his role as creative director of Valentino. He joined the company in 1999 and became the sole creative director in 2016. After 25 years with the fashion house, Pierpaolo Piccioli is leaving the brand — specifically stepping down from his role as creative director, which he's held for the past eight years. After graduating from the Istituto Europeo di Design school, Piccioli met his creative partner, Maria Grazia Chiuri, in the 1980s, according to BoF. But when Chiuri left for Dior in 2016, Piccioli held the Valentino role on his own.

Alessandro Michele’s departure as the creative director of Gucci hadn’t yet been announced. By his own account, he struggled to express himself; young, gay and interested in fashion, De Sarno felt out of place. He did stints at Prada and Dolce & Gabbana before, in 2009, making a more permanent home at Valentino in Rome. During his 14-year tenure there, he cycled upward through various departments until he became the label’s fashion director and the right-hand man of its creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli. Recently, Gucci announced that the company will relocate the design office from Rome to Milan, where De Sarno feels most at home.

Tesla's Cybertruck is closer than ever, so we asked three experts on car design what they think about it. AdvertisementAdvertisementTo some, the upcoming Tesla Cybertruck looks like a clumsily designed, doorstop-shaped monstrosity. Instead of mimicking the upright, boxy shape of conventional pickups, Tesla's truck looks more like a triangle. "In car design, you wouldn't believe how much of a difference some small changes make," Licata said. Simplicity and purity are hallmarks of timeless design, Snyder said, and Tesla's wacky truck could fit the bill.

Poland's government, which faces October elections, is even suing Brussels over climate policies. Britain has already quickly gone from being a leader on the world stage to looking quite weak on green policies, he said. CITIZENS, BUSINESSESEurope's green policies are still more credible than U.S. ones, given see-sawing between electoral cycles in the United States, some analysts said. Rows over green policies have propelled right-wing populist parties to second place in both Dutch and German polls. "Otherwise citizens might start to feel that climate policy is always financially overwhelming and bad, and that sentiment is then exploited by populists."

A pushback against climate policies is not just a U.S. issue. Reprisals over climate policies come at a time of record-breaking extreme heat across the globe, with July poised to be the hottest month in human history. Ruling party leader Jarosław Kaczyński described the bloc's green policies as "madness" and akin to "green communism." "At the moment, it looks like green parties are not doing going fantastically well. "The IRA is called an IRA, it is not called a climate act because there's no way that you could get Democrats and Republicans to agree on something called climate," Tocci said.

[1/2] A man walks past a bas-relief depicting fascist leader Benito Mussolini in the EUR neighbourhood of Rome, Italy, known for its fascist architecture, October 19, 2022. The "places of fascism" website (www.luoghifascismo.it) was unveiled on Tuesday by the Istituto Nazionale Parri, a Milan-based historical research institute, following four years of research. It lists famous landmarks, such as the obelisk in Rome marked in giant lettering with "Mussolini Dux" (Mussolini leader), as well as more obscure memorials up and down the country. Italy has a complicated relationship with its fascist past, now under greater scrutiny as Giorgia Meloni, a hard-right politician with a teenage past as a Mussolini fan, was sworn in as prime minister last month. Italian researchers are adding propulsion engines to a small humanoid robot. The engines will allow the robot to fly like Iron Man. The iCub, as the robot is called, could help in natural disasters. The robot will have systems in its palms that allow it to control power and direction, much like the Marvel superhero Iron Man. The ability to fly will allow iCub to do both these things.
